Society Awards (extracted from the “Items of Understanding”)

1) Content of Society Awards

The Society shall establish the four prizes of the Achievement Award, Excellence Award, Encouragement Award, and Publication Award. Presentation of the Achievement Award and Excellence Award shall begin in 1986, the Encouragement Award in 1999, and the Publication Award in 2011.

  1. The Behaviormetric Society “Achievement Award”

    The Award shall be given to those who, to a great extent contributed to the development of behaviormetrics through their outstanding achievements. In principle, one person shall be selected each year. The Award winner shall be recognized at the General Meeting and be given a supplementary prize of 100,000 yen.

    The official name of the “Achievement Award” shall be the “Hayashi Chikio Award (Achievement Award)”.

  2. The Behaviormetric Society “Excellence Award”

    The Award shall be given to individuals and groups who presented a single or multiple outstanding research achievements related to behaviormetrics. One or two cases shall be selected each year, in principle. The Award winner shall be recognized at the General Meeting and given a supplementary prize of 50,000 yen per case.

    The official name of the “Excellence Award” shall be the “Hayashi Chikio Award (Excellence Award)”.

  3. The Behaviormetric Society “Encouragement Award”

    The Award shall be given to individual young researchers who presented promising and aspirational research achievements in the academic journals (“Kodo keiryogaku” and “Behaviormetrika”) published by The Behaviormetric Society, or at the Behaviormetrics Conference held every year. One case shall be selected each year, in principle. The Award winner shall be recognized at the General Meeting and shall be given a supplementary prize of 30,000 yen per case.

    The official name of the “Encouragement Award” shall be the “Hidano Tadashi and Mizuno Kinji Award (Encouragement Award)”.

  4. The Behaviormetric Society “Publication Award”

    The Award shall be given to authors and translators of excellent books related to behaviormetrics which are published in the past three years or so (three persons or fewer, in principle). One case shall be selected each year, in principle. The Award winner shall be recognized at the General Meeting and be given a supplementary prize of 50,000 yen per case.

    The official name of the “Publication Award” shall be the “Sugiyama Meiko Award (Publication Award)”.

2) Fundamental Qualifications for Winners

  1. In the case of receiving an award as an individual, the individual must be an Associate, Regular, or Honorary member, other than a Supporting member.

  2. In the case of receiving an award as a group, at least half of the group must be Society members.

  3. Upon presenting an award, the consent of the concerned party is needed.

  4. The “Achievement Award” and “Encouragement Award” shall be given only once to each person.
